The Roof
This is a roof that was on a general store in Hope, Alaska. The picture was taken in 1986 or 1987 and there's another photo (that I've yet to digitize) of the store itself, complete with a vintage car out front.

Many of my photos have had to be subtly manipulated to fit properly inside an 8x10 frame. As you may know, for some reason 35mm photos have an 2x3 aspect ratio, while most frames have an 4x5 ratio. If a 35mm photo is composed properly through the lens, the resulting picture often won't fit in an 8x10 frame.

In the case of this roof, the smokestack was off to the right and when I attempted to enlarge it for framing, the focal point (the stack), was cut off. Using the magic of digital manipulation, I moved the smokestack to the left a few inches (along with its shadow) and the result is the image you see before you.
