As a true sensualist, foreplay is an art. It begins as you read this and, if made a part of your essential, elemental being, continues forever.

Foreplay is standing on a rocky coast at sunset, revelling in the beauty and the power of the sea and the sun. Foreplay is standing barefoot in a dark, damp, midnight field, with a full moon in the sky, simply holding hands with someone special. Foreplay is the comforting word after a bad day at the office, a hug at the right time, the perfect cup of espresso surrounded by millions of words in thousands of books, cuddling together while watching a wonderfully, woefully, willfully, whimsically, luxuriously bad movie.

Foreplay is power and strength and sensitivity and the ability to make it all seem better, even if for a short while.

Now, don’t get me wrong. Foreplay is also a bite here, a lick there, a kiss, a touch, that caress in just the right spot to ...

Can you withstand the sultry intensity of the slow burn?

Legend has it that once there were two frogs. The first was dropped into a pan of scalding hot water. The heat was so sudden and so intense, the frog was startled and jumped away. But another frog was dropped into water of perfect temperature, ideal for the frog’s comfort. Slowly, ever so slowly, the temperature on this second pan was increased, so while the frog got warmer and warmer and warmer, the change was so gradual and yet so intense, the frog eventually succumbed.

And that’s the difference between a relationship built on fireworks and one built on a constantly increasing slow burn. In the case of fireworks, heat is sudden, fleeting, and soon it burns out. But in the case of the slow burn, the intensity increases constantly, ever reaching new levels, ever getting hotter and hotter, constantly pushing the limits and yet, infinitely comfortable.

Will you succumb?
