I've written a number of pieces on the attacks of September 11, 2001. They're listed below. I've listed them in the order they were written. In a small way, they give an interesting picture of how we felt as we moved through these events.
We were due to publish our September issue of DominoPower on the day of the attacks. We obviously postponed the magazine. But, just a few days later, we managed to get back to work. This first piece then, is as close to the event as we get:
Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness
All of us at ZATZ are deeply saddened by tragedies in New York, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania and we extend our sympathies and condolences to those affected. On the day of the disaster, and for the two following days, I posted commentaries about the crisis to our news pages. Those commentaries are contained in this solemn editorial. [DominoPower, September 2001]
The following piece came out around October 1st, less than three weeks after the event:
Still processing after all these days
I shared my views on the recent tragedy, how it relates to technology, and where we go from here. [PalmPower, October 2001]
We published these two letters right around November 1, about six weeks after the attacks:
Readers share their thoughts of 9-11
We got many responses to my editorials where I shared my views on the tragedy of September 11. In this edition of Letters to the Editor, two readers offer their emotional responses. [PalmPower, November 2001]
By mid-November, which is when the following piece came out, we were still feeling the stress effects, but we all had to get on with our lives:
Keeping calm, keeping sane, and what comes Rnext
The economy, terrorism, Anthrax, planes crashing, unemployment...the stress is getting to us all. In my editorial, I shared some ideas on how readers could manage their own stress level and find some peace of mind in troubled times. In order to brighten the day of our techie readers (and get away with the commentary), I also talked about a new release of software called Rnext. [DominoPower, November 2001]
And, finally, the last piece I've written (and it's the last I hope I'll ever write on this topic), we begin to move on, to look forward to a new year, and hopefully, a new beginning:
Be all you can be
Normally, we at PalmPower devote our December issue to the choosing of gifts for the holidays, and thereby do our part to honor the link between commerce and celebration. But this year, we've decided to take a different approach from years past. [PalmPower, December 2001]
